Elaine has over a decade of experience working in Mental health services, delivering high quality therapy throughout various NHS Trusts, including: IAPT, Secondary Care and Complex PTSD services, alongside private clinics, such as the Priory and Bupa.
Elaine specialises in treating psychological trauma, specifically, Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) and also chronic health conditions. She has clinical experience working within a specialist NHS service treating complex and chronic health issues, such as: CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Elaine has also designed and implemented group therapy programmes within the NHS, for those living with chronic pain and fatigue.
Elaine’s specialism in working with chronic illness extends to those living with autoimmune conditions, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Elaine is an active member of the Crohn’s and Colitis UK charity and has also been an independent expert contributor for the charity’s Mental Health Review.
As a therapist, Elaine applies a warm and holistic approach to treatment, working compassionately to help integrate a mind/body connection, which can often be disrupted as a result of traumatic experience and also as a result of living with chronic illness and/or disability.
Elaine adopts an integrated therapeutic approach, and works with the following modalities:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including Trauma-focussed CBT
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing)
- Schema-focussed therapy (working on Core Belief systems)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Working with chronic illness (in line with NICE guidelines)
